Basic Function: Our Staff Accountant reports to the Accounting Manager and is responsible for the general oversight of accounting operations, verification of financial records and transactions, reconciliation of account balances and bank statements, maintenance of the general ledger, production of periodic financial reports, and verification that reported results comply with GAAP.

Principal Accountabilities:
Oversight
- Our Staff Accountant is responsible for monitoring accounting department operations and the verification of financial transactions.
- Accounts payable
- Verify the accuracy of expense coding/other postings
- Review vendor statement reconciliations
- Periodic review of vendor insurance Accords
- Ensure timely vendor payments and application of reasonable discounts
- Review petty cash reconciliations
- Monitors all local vendor charge accounts and purchase credit card transactions
- Accounts receivable
- Verify the accuracy of postings
- Ensure timeliness of postings/deposits
- Ensure customer inquiries are responded to in a timely and professional manner
- Ensure cash handling best practices are maintained
- Payroll
- Verify the accuracy of payroll runs
- Ensure accurate and timely state and federal reporting
- Ensure timely payment of payroll liabilities
- Ensure accuracy of general ledger postings
- Accounts payable
Transactions
- Process bank reconciliations
- Process A&L reconciliations
- Review, approve and post journal entries of junior accounting personnel
Reporting
- Prepare monthly financial statements, reports, and records by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information for one or more corporations
- Assist accounting manager in preparing documents and interpreting complicated financial information for managers and executives.
- Assist accounting manager with the production of the annual budget and forecasts
- Assist accounting manager with producing schedules for the annual audits
- Assist with other projects as needed
Desired Qualifications
The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and 5 – 7 years of progressively responsible roles. He or she must possess strong written and verbal communication skills, advanced knowledge of Excel, the ability to work with minimal supervision, the ability to meet communicated schedules and deadlines, thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures, in-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process. Current Beaufort County residents preferred.
