I am a Relationship Builder…not a Recruiter

When asked what I do for Better Talent – my answer is simple – I build relationships. I get to know people and learn about what they are looking for in their next role. If you’ve talked with me in the past, you may have even heard me say the word “matchmaking”…because, for me, introducing a new role we have on our job board to someone I’ve gotten to know because I think they may be a good “match,” is one of my favorite things to do – and let me be clear  – I absolutely love what I do!

What I am not, however, is a recruiter and Better Talent is not a typical recruiting company. I do not make commissions (and neither does Better Talent). I do not conduct interviews, nor do I help facilitate or set up interviews between talent and our partners. I am not a resume writer and do not help write resumes…but I will consistently encourage people to be fully transparent and honest. Leading with integrity is always the right choice.

My role as a Talent Relationship Specialist is to develop relationships and connect with incredibly talented people who are looking for the next amazing chapter in their professional lives. I am here to get to know people – I listen to stories with an empathetic heart. I lean in during conversations so I can truly understand where they’re coming from and where they’d like to go. Because a conversation with me is not an interview, people can speak freely and be completely and authentically themselves. I am their cheerleader. I am a good sounding board. I then help them start the Better Talent process by directing them to our jobs board and encouraging them to apply for anything that piques their interest. There’s no better feeling than when someone I’ve talked with gets hired by one of the companies we work with. I have quite literally done a “happy dance” in my kitchen when someone told me they got hired by one of our partners. Our entire team celebrates these wins, and it is awesome to be a part of it.

 

 

 I ask myself every day – how can I bring value to my family, my friends, and the people I work with?  This is something our Better Talent team focuses on regularly, and it is my goal to continue to bring value to the incredible talent I get to meet, talk to, and work with.  I feel so incredibly fortunate to hear people’s stories, learn about their highs and lows, and ultimately and most importantly, earn their trust.
