Job Description
Company Overview
A well-established boutique law firm in the Phoenix area is seeking an experienced Commercial / Civil Litigation Paralegal to join its litigation team. Our firm handles sophisticated commercial, business, civil, and related litigation matters in a professional, collaborative environment. We value sound judgment, accountability, attention to detail, and initiative. We offer an excellent compensation and benefits package.
Position Summary
We are seeking a litigation paralegal with at least five years of substantive commercial and/or civil litigation experience to provide high-level support to busy attorneys. This is not an entry-level or purely task-driven role.
From the opening or assignment of a matter, the paralegal is expected to learn the case, understand its parties and issues, identify immediate needs and upcoming deadlines, organize materials, and proactively help move the matter forward under attorney supervision. The ideal candidate anticipates next steps without requiring every task to be individually delegated.
Key Responsibilities
Take ownership of assigned matters, including understanding their procedural status, key documents, deadlines, and outstanding needs.
Support all phases of commercial and civil litigation, from case assessment and discovery through depositions, motions, hearings, arbitration, trial, and resolution.
Draft and prepare pleadings, written discovery, subpoenas, notices, correspondence, chronologies, summaries, and other litigation materials.
Organize and analyze evidence, assist with document productions, and prepare deposition exhibits, witness materials, and attorney preparation files.
Assist with hearing, mediation, arbitration, and trial preparation, including exhibits and case materials.
Conduct factual investigation and research appropriate to paralegal assignments.
Track case developments and assignments, identify missing information, and follow up on outstanding items and approaching deadlines.
Maintain accurate, organized electronic case files and communicate professionally with clients, counsel, experts, courts, and vendors as appropriate.
Record billable time accurately and contemporaneously and collaborate with attorneys and other support professionals.
Required Qualifications
Minimum five years of substantive commercial and/or civil litigation paralegal experience in a law firm.
Strong understanding of litigation procedures, discovery, document production, depositions, and trial or arbitration preparation.
Advanced Microsoft Suite proficiency.
Excellent case-management, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills with exceptional accuracy.
Ability to manage competing priorities independently, exercise sound judgment, and follow assignments through completion.
Proficiency with legal practice-management, document-management, and litigation technology; discretion with confidential information.
